Oborns Nautical Twilight - Naval Point Club

New Year resolution to take Marshall Law out each week.

Its hard to find crew to sail, and skippers of yachts keep their contacts list under close guard. I was scratching around without luck and gave up after a few days. So dropped Alex Cuthbert a line to see if I could sail with him on Pi. Pi was out of the water getting ready for another regatta, so my luck Alex and Kirsten said they would come and sail Marshall Law with me.

3 POB

18 kts gusting 22.

We left Te Ana with one reef and the J2 hanked, runners back and ready. Once we hit the wind we quickly swapped the J2 for the J3 and tied the runners forward. ML has swept spreaders and we were not planning on any kites so decided to keep it simple.

Stayed behind on the start line, being new and short handed decided not to tussle. Ross 40 are great off the wind but a little harder to get going into wind. By the second upwind we were starting to find the groove, ML needs to sail her own race is the takeaway.

The format in Whakaraupō / Lyttelton is how many laps in a set time. The most fun part of our evening was when we saw 7 mins left on the clock and with a tack to come it was going to be tight but we made it by 15sec.
